I have discovered a polite and quick way to get rid of these people quickly without feeling rude, as I have worked in a Call Centre myself, and realise that the person on the other end is not calling me as a result of a personal vendetta.
How many times have you been asked 'Can you confirm your name, first line of your address etc'?
Well, all you need to say is 'Sorry, but I don't give that sort of information out over the phone.'
Try it, you'll be amazed at the results!
Incidentally, you should NEVER give your details out on the telephone!
Are you aware that there is more risk from doing this on the phone than there is in paying for things over the internet?
And in this current climate of identity theft, you should insist on postal communications.
At least then you can put it in the recycle bin and feel content that you are doing your 'bit' for the environment!
