And The Winner Is.....

Asda gives young staff adult pay.

The Leeds-based supermarket chain said it had taken the decision in the light of anti-age discrimination laws which came into force on Sunday.

An Asda spokeswoman said: "We no longer think it's acceptable to have different pay rates for different age groups."

So, it's first blood to Asda in the 'let's jump on the new ageism rules bandwagon, and spin-doctors' dream!

Good idea in principle, but might cause a few problems within the ranks.

I'd feel a little resentful if I was a mother, with say, 2 kids and a 3 bed semi in suburbia who was doing the same job as a 16/17 year old and receiving exactly the same wage.

You'd better hope that all these promises of 'realising your potential' at Tesco/Asda/Sainsbury et al. are in fact true, but more importantly, they had better ensure that 'potential' is spotted early, otherwise anyone with retail skills will not stay long. HR departments everywhere, beware!
