This makes for interesting reading.
Several thoughts come to mind.
It just shows you the power of the gaming market. This is about one product in the whole Sony range of products, but it can affect it's global price by nearly 3%? That's amazing!
But I've seen the footage of PS3, and I can't help but wonder if Sony will ever catch up? The biggest advantage the XBox 360 has over any of it's current or future rivals is its online service XBox LiVE. Unless Sony can at least match this service, they will fall woefully short of their expected sales projections.
But an overheating issue? And they've ONLY just discovered it? Someones not been testing properly, again! We see this all the time in software releases, but this close to a hardware release?
Be careful Sony, you are giving the impression that you're not yet ready to challenge the hi-def gaming market just yet! If your launch fails, so will your product.
Incidentally, the price of the PS3 in Japan has just been officially reduced, so therefore we should expect an amended price in the UK. Again, bad PR...reduce a products price before launch? Why, what's up with it?
And finally, the last sentence in the article states
"It's not a problem with the PlayStation 3 unit itself," Kato maintained. "For a normal player at home, there shouldn't be any problem."
So, it would appear that they are using a different PS3 than us 'normal' users. That's good testing eh?
Thanks to MetalG and xx AlucardUK xx for the heads up.
