Lot's Has Happened To Do With Fenland IT Ltd!

Well, where to start eh?

Fenland IT Ltd can now offer FULL PC systems from £200 upwards. Also upgrade components, consumables etc. (Keep an eye on the website for details!)

We can also provide web hosting, maintenance and design services, albeit basic sites at the moment.

Also, the website is actually starting to take shape! I dunno why, but this Dreamweaver stuff has finally clicked!

I'm in the process of updating it now. We have images, rollover images, customised buttons using Fireworks!

FINALLY it all seems to be coming together. AT LAST! Was starting to think I would have to pay someone to do our website.

So what's next?

Well, finalisation of the website for SME's, design and posting of Home User website, ecommerce section, on-line ordering and enquiries, pricing structure.

It never ends eh?

Right, loads to do and so little time!

Until next time......

Domestos And Dettol

If Domestos and Dettol kill 99.9% of all germs, what about the 0.1%?

It could be feeding them, turning them into some sort of super germ. One day, you'll be sat on your toilet and a mutant germ that's been feeding on this stuff will grab you and drag you through the S-bend so he and his mates can feed on ya!

We're all doomed!

Enchanted Arms For XBox 360

After almost a year, the 360 might finally have an Eastern RPG to be proud of!

Released 10th September 2005.

Hope this is better than Oblivion, which wasn't to my particular tastes. As a lover of the Final Fantasy games, I'm hoping this won't disappoint!

GRAW Solo Challenge

Here's an interesting one for you!

My mate Phindme issued a challenge. Complete 'Shipping Port' mission on GRAW using the MP5 as your primary weapon.

What a challenge, but what a weapon! I have done it, EVENTUALLY, but as a result, I have changed my default weapon to this.

Highly accurate, particularly on single shot, and one hell of a fire rate!

Give it a try, you'll be suprised!

Nice one Phindme! Cheers!

'Product Sabotage' Helps Consumers

If shops just asked their customers whether they would like a discount, every customer would say "Yes", so shops need to get a bit smarter about working out which customers will pay which price.

Some of the attempts are obvious, such as discounts for students or pensioners.

You didn't think it was out of a sense of social justice, did you?

Companies simply charge more to people who have jobs, because those people are willing to pay more.

There's psychology and social status behind shopping! Would you rather walk round town with a M & S bag or an Aldi one, yet a tin of beans is a tin of beans, isn't it?

Shouldn't it be down to personal taste, as opposed to status?

Alzheimer Mice Memories Restored

The memory of mice suffering from Alzheimer's disease has been restored.

Hurray! There seem to be major developments recently concerning the research into treating and reversing the terrible diseases of Alzheimers, Parkinsons and Huntingtons Disease.

This is vital research, in my opinion, and the results are extremely encouraging.

'Pay As You Throw' Plans For Recycling

The Institute for Public Policy Research said a "pay as you throw" system was the only way to improve the UK's poor recycling record.

The UK recycled or composted only 18% of waste in 2003-04, IPPR figures show, the third worst figures in Europe.

Interesting proposal, but how will this be enforced?

I agree we should recycle more, after all, Holland recycles 65% of its waste, so why not us?

Toshiba To Manufacture Microsoft's iPod Rival

Microsoft has confirmed that Japanese firm Toshiba will make its portable media player - "Zune" - to be released before the end of the year.

It will be wireless, which is a boost, but if this is Wi-Fi or Bluetooth is unclear.

Also, no pricing at the moment, but 30GB of storage should be ample. Is it going to be the iPod killer they expect and want? Only time will tell.

You'd Better Start Saving If You Want Your Own Home!

The average couple needs to save at least £29,000 to pay for the deposit and stamp duty on their first home.

Scandalous! Realistically, this means you need to be saving £3,000 a year from the time you leave school to be able to afford to get on the property ladder.

Rainbow 6 : Vegas

Now this is a game I'm really looking forward to, as is almost everyone else on my Friends List. Click the title for more info.

Sounding good so far, but here's hoping it's not another 'Lockdown' eh?!

Sony Has Gone Up In My Estimation

The spare processing power of Sony's PlayStation 3 (PS3) will be harnessed by scientists trying to understand the cause of diseases like Alzheimer's.
Sony has teamed up with US biologists who already run the distributed computing project, folding@home (FAH).

C'mon Microsoft, this is a bandwagon you should jump on!

Texas Hold 'Em Poker on XBox LiVE Marketplace

Well, if you have a 360 and access to LiVE, download Texas Hold 'Em Poker on Marketplace before Friday and you get it for free, saving you 800 points!

Just spent 4 hours on the game, and it's fantastic! Highly recommended! Get it downloaded NOW!

Subhuman

I'm watching a film called "Subhuman' on Zone Horror Channel.

Special effects are dire, film quality is terrible, but a fantastic script! Full of social statements and profound dialogue. For example 'The eye only sees what the mind can comprehend.'

In essence, it's a vampire story. Worth a watch if you ever get chance, just ignore the bad quality filming and effects.

There's a "Frightfest" festival in London, 25th - 28th August that looks great! Wish I could go!

That's a LOT of immigrants!

There are now OFFICIALLY over 600,000 immigrant workers in the UK. Now I'm all for an 'open' market, but surely we aren't experiencing such a shortage of workers that we have to rely on foreign workers to fill our country's vacancies?

I hate PC's!

Well, I've just spent 3 hours trying to get a computer running Windows ME to accept a damn camera! What a kerfuffle! At the rate it was going, it was going to take another 3 hours to get it operational, and that would require charging them £150 for the work done. I can't do that, so ended up bringing the damn thing home, so I can backup the files on it and reformat the Hard Drive and install Windows 2000 Pro on it until they upgrade.

The good news is they want Fenland IT to supply their new PC when they upgrade, so I'll just re-coup my losses then.

They were impressed with the service and have taken a dozen business cards to pass to their friends. They have also promised to buy their printer cartridges through Fenland IT, as we are between £5 and £10 cheaper than what they have been paying.

They even told some of their friends about us while I was there, which was really encouraging.

But, one thing I have learnt recently is what people say they are going to do and what they ACTUALLY do are often totally different. Only time will tell eh?

But, all in all, it was a productive evening. If I could earn £250 a week while I get everything set up, I'd be very happy.

Well, after all the speculation, they have been charged!

Well, after discussing this with friends and listening to all the theories about it being a Government setup to allow radical changes to our judicial system, the Police have charged 11 of the suspects from the recent raids in connection with the pot to blow up aircraft. But, charging them is different to actually convicting them, although the evidence they say they have is conclusive.

Only time will tell....

Fulham Were Hammered!

Just watched the highlights of Manchester United v Fulham. 5-1....and Fulham were hammered! To be fair, Utd played really well, utilising the wide players to their full potential. Again, Giggs was on form and it showed. I've always said that you should give Giggs 45 minutes and if he's not on form, get him off. But Fulham were awful, and Michael Brown's tackle on Giggs was awful! That was deserving a red card and a fine, as he could easily have crippled him! But credit where it's due.....well done United, but let's see how they do against the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and their bogey team Bolton Wanderers.

Manchester City v Chelsea, 3 - 0. John Terry played just as well as he did against Greece and scored a really nice goal. Nice play to set up Lampard for his goal too, but terrible goalkeeping helped on his goal I think. Drogba's goal was superb, what a powerful header from a glorious cross. Watch Shevchenko, he'll get a load of goals this season I think. Again, credit where it's due.

In both games I thought the tackling was vicious, but that's probably borne out of frustration, understandable but inexcusable in my opinion. And what was with the hair pulling? Girlie!

And again, the issue is raised about refereeing. Is it time for replays? Maybe allow each team 3 opportunities to have a decision reviewed after replay? I don't know the answer, but something needs to be done soon.

Been busy again.....

Well, it's been a couple of days since I did a post, so here's an update....

As you are aware, I'm designing my website and WAS using Dreamweaver. However, I was told that Frontpage would be easier, so i concentrated on learning that.

However, after 3 days, I can honestly say that Dreamweaver is SO much better and easier to use than Frontpage. Nicer interface, more user friendly and has it's own FTP setup without having to utilise a FTP program.

The website has been updated, but I'm still working on it, especially as I have just wasted 4 days on Frontpage! Grrrrr.

On a lighter note, it was good to see my team Bolton Wanderers win their first match of the season! Come on you Trotters! (Interesting fact...the two players who scored yesterday were the same two players who scored in the opening game of LAST season! Weird eh?)

Anyway, I'm hoping the website will have a better layout tomorrow, so please keep looking and feel free to comment.

Take care, and until next time.....

The Useless Eaters

My good friend Keith has FINALLY found a singer and fellow guitarist! As a result, they are organising some gigs in the area.

As a taster, click the Title to go to the Channel 4 website and listen to 3 of his songs. They won't be to everyones taste, but the lyrics are excellent and the guitar/mixing is stupendous!

Please leave a comment, if you feel inclined.

Enjoy!

(My favourite is "What We Is Free For", but that's my personal preference.)

My Horoscope For Today - How Apt!

You could be holding onto feelings from the past and although it will likely work out for you in the long run, there is the trap of doing what you've already done.

Often we repeat patterns until we learn the essential lesson.

The universe is giving you a chance to try something new -- and therefore move into new territory.

Remain open to change, so you don't need to cover the same ground one more time.

How true this is! Particularly at this moment in time! I don't normally pay attention to stuff like this, and I know you can attribute any horoscopes comments to your own situation, but it still struck home - painfully so!

It Gets Better!

Well, I've just come off the phone with a company that supplies IT and printer consumables.

And guess what? Fenland IT can now offer cheap but high quality consumables too, without having to actually hold the stock!

We are the FIRST company to be affiliated with this company, and they are very reasonable.

For example, a HP Colour Cartridge will cost £13.99 as opposed to £26.99 and a high capacity Black Cartridge is £10.49 instead of £18.99. (That includes VAT and P&P!)

Things just get better and better!

Mmmmm, looks like we'll have to set up a separate retail/web outlet....NICE ONE!

Chuffed!

I've just finished testing my settings for Frontpage 2003 and my website. Did a VERY basic header and inserted 3 graphic images and a Hyperlink.

IT'S THERE! At last! I've FINALLY managed to get my settings working!

That's it now, there's no stopping me!

(I KNOW it's basic, but for a complete novice, I'm REALLY pleased with myself!)

BIG smile on my face now.....daft I know!

On A Lighter Note...

At last! Finished MOTOGP '06 on Legend for ALL game modes! Phew! Hard work, trust me!

AND I've managed to get my copy of GRAW working again, so it's time for some killin'! Wahey!

The Root Of All Evil - Richard Dawkins

This guy says

'The time has come for people of reason to say enough is enough. Religious faith discourages independent thought, its divisive and its dangerous.'

And I personally think he is right.

Below are links to 3 YouTube vids that discuss the role of Religion in general in the current political and religious environment.

They run for approximately 45 minutes altogether, but I urge you to devote some time to watching them as they will enlighten you to the REAL cause of terrorism.

The Root Of All Evil - Vid1
The Root Of All Evil - Vid2
The Root Of All Evil - Vid3

This guy isn't saying Science is the answer, rather that we should use science as part of the solution, in my opinion.

As someone who was brought up as a Jehovah's Witness, I can relate to his comments on how Religion relies on telling you what to believe. In many religions, you are actively discouraged from questioning the logic behind it and you are frowned upon should you do so.

I understand the need for faith, we all need to feel as though we 'belong', but when that results in people killing others because an individual or society refuses to adopt those ideals, it's wrong, fundamentaly so!

The world is going down the toilet, we all know that, the problem is no individual has the answer. Without the abilty to start society from scratch, religion and indeed 'faith' of ANY kind will always cause conflict.

Undoubtedly, this may cause derision amongst some of you. If you feel as though you have something to say, either for or against his statements or mine, please post a comment. I would be extremely interested in your comments/opinions etc.

Don't be shy!

Vader Has Issues!

Another Vader related vid....enjoy!

The Hobbit

Apparently, 'The Hobbit' is to be released 19th December 2006. Directed by Peter Jackson and using the actors from 'Lord Of The Rings', here's hoping it lives up to the book as well as LOTR did. Click the Title above for YouTube trailer.

He he he!

Hopes raised and suitably dashed upon the rocks of dissapointment far, far below. This "Trailer" is made up of various film footage from the original LOTR trilogy and also Reign Of Fire, Dragon Slayer and also, I think, Dragon Heart.

It's very well done I think you'll admit, and obviously very believeable.

The rights to produce the Hobbit for real are currently under negotiation, but it'll be a long time coming.

Just had to let you know.....

WOW!

Just been listening to Talk Radio and it's now official. There are MORE people in the world that are overweight than there are suffering from malnutrition, and that includes Africa!

Some figures (no pun intended) for you to digest (that WAS intended!)

There are 1 billion people in the world who are classed as obese as opposed to 800 million who are classed as malnourished.

In the UK, 1/4 of ALL under 11's are classed as overweight.

And the cost to the NHS, and therefore to YOU, is estimated to rise to £3.2 BILLION in the next 3 years.

I don't know about you, but I find that incredible. Changes in eating and work habits are partially to blame.

Click the Title for more info.

A quick note before bed.....

Well, I've just had a fantastic night, got loads done.

Firstly, I've designed the layout of the website, on paper anyway, so I'll be spending the next few days building and uploading. I'll post on here as soon as it's uploaded. Decided to go with Frontpage as opposed to Dreamweaver, as it enables me to upload to my Linux server without having to mess around with FTP etc. This means I can update my site 'real-time'.

Decided to go with a Linux server as it's cheaper, faster and more stable. Plus you get loads of free plugins because it's open source software, like Forums, SQL databases, sub domains etc.

And thanks to my excellent negotiating skills, Fenland IT Ltd can now offer web hosting, design and administration at exceedingly good rates. Also negotiated a sub-contract with a London company to provide IT Support to their current and new customers in the Cambridgeshire area.

I have several corporate presentations to do next week, so I'm also preparing a Powerpoint presentation on Fenland IT Ltd and the services we can offer. Also have a couple of appointments to sort out some Business Grants that we're eligible for, which would help.

Anyway, off to bed now. Busy day ahead, hunched over my screen, as per normal.

Until next time......

Been REALLY busy!

Well, what a busy few days I've had, or so it seems.

FINALLY managed to find a decent web host for my site, and it's just been activated so I'm busy building my website and learning how to upload etc. Not easy, especially for a novice, but I'll get there....

I have 1GB of space, so I'm going to set up seperate pages and forum for The Phoenix Knights clan, who are soon to return from the ashes. So, keep an eye on www.fenlandit.co.uk and hopefully you'll see some changes REAL soon!

On the down side, because of my limited income at the moment, I've had to sacrifice my SKY package. The money I was spending on that is more than the cost of my web hosting, so it's a case of prioritising. For now anyway, and I don't watch that much TV anyway.

Only thing I am going to miss is 'A Town Called Eureka', but it'll be on Channel 4 soon, so I'll catch up eventually.

Anyway, gotta go, things to do. Until next time.....

Is 80 Enough?

As Fidel Castro survives past his 80th birthday and numerous assasination attempts, this article asks the question 'Is 80 Enough'.....interesting thought.

What would YOU do?

Ed Gein

Watched 'Ed Gein' on Film 4 tonight. This guy was a weirdo! Necrophilia, cannabilism and murder. Apparently, the director of 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' and 'Psycho' based their stories on this guy. Oh, and 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' is NOT a true story! Click the link for more gruesome info.

XBox Live Addicts

Boring day really. One item of note though. XBox Live Addicts have asked me to organise a team and run it for the official MOTOGP 06 game. I said yes of course, just need some riders!

Amazing Meteor Shower Sat/Sun

Meteor shower called Leonids will be visible tomorrow. Check the link for additional info.

Hurrah! At last!

Managed to get in the top 1,000 on MOTOGP '06 - well done me!

Not only.......

Now I’m Angry!

Not only does my 360 eat my disks and nobody is responsible!

Not only does my 360 suffer DIRE connection problems, in virtually EVERY game!

Not only does my 360, which has been replaced recently, decide to freeze for no reason!

But now, it prevents me from playing a game that is listed, by Microsoft themselves, as being backward compatible!

The game in question is Rainbow 6 : Black Arrow, arguably one of the best on-line shooters available for the original Xbox and immensely popular online.

Now, I have played Ghost Recon : Advanced Warfighter to, literally, death, and I am bored! The maps haven’t the depth of the maps in Ghost Recon : Summit Strike, and it feels more like Rainbow 6 in big, open air maps. An excellent game, nonetheless, don’t get me wrong, but……..

So, I decided to revisit my Rainbow 6 : Black Arrow, just for a change. Besides, I never managed to complete it on the hardest setting.

I loaded my disk into my 360, and it informed me that there were updates required to download for the game and my 360. All good! Said ‘Y’ at the appropriate places and downloading commenced.

Now, after downloading and starting the game, the familiar “Downloads” option on the Menu screen was flashing, as I expected. After all, I haven’t played this game since my 360 arrived, which in retrospect is a bad thing. Rainbow is a fantastic game on-line. Must be the ‘randomness’ of your kills, players will know what I mean.

Anyway, I get to the downloads screen, and the 4 packs were there to download. Again, all good! I expected them there……but…….

On closer inspection, it appears that if I want to play my game on-line, I have to pay AGAIN for map packs that I have previously paid for. 2 of them at £2.99 each.

Now, I know that in the past, your ‘history’ of downloads etc. was held on the hard drive of the Xbox, unlike now where it’s held against your Gamertag, but nevertheless.

If this IS the case, shouldn’t there be something on the ‘Compatibility List’ that states that if you are playing Rainbow 6 : Black Arrow on-line, as it doesn’t affect single player, that you will have to re-pay for the map packs if you want to play on your 360? Otherwise, the only option is to have your ‘black-brick’ parked next to your 360 to play online. (Or networked in, for all you ‘techies’ out there! LOL!)

I do understand the technical problems etc. but I think that this information should be stated SOMEWHERE!

Ah well, I’m used to being disappointed with the whole 360 experience. I don’t remember this many problems with the original Xbox and Xbox LiVE.

So, with trepidation, I load my Summit Strike disk. ‘Download Required’ my 360 tells me, all good! I proceed with the download. Completes and my 360 proceeds to load the game.

Mmmm, worrying screen! The Main Screen is ‘blocky’ and my 360 is ‘clicking’ away merrily! However, all is well, as eventually the game loads and the intro runs.

Now, it tells me I have to create a profile, as expected. Again, this is another excellent online game I have ignored since I got my 360.

At this point, it tells me a download is required. OK, all good! I’m presented with the familiar Xbox dashboard theme(?) and the download begins.

After download, my 360 reboots and loads the screen, which is not blocky this time, and immediately ‘locks’! Not an uncommon occurrence. I turn my 360 off, wait the recommended 10 seconds before turning back on.

Main screen is OK…..intro……Menu screen. Select Multiplayer. Forgot where the downloads section is. Suddenly remember it’s in Multiplayer Options at main screen! Doh! Well, it has been a long time since I played it!

I come out of Xbox Live and I am greeted by a screen saying new content is available for me to download! WOW! My 360 can now pre-empt my thoughts! Freaky!

Anyway, select ‘A’ to continue and my 360 proudly announces that I need to re-connect my controller to port 1 and to press ‘A’ to continue. Eh?

I press ‘A’, what else can I do except turn it off? And……….it signs me in to LiVE and tells me that there’s bonus content available for download?!?!? Phew! Not exactly the way I would have done it, but I got there in the end.

So I’m counting the seconds until the download completes. That may sound sad, but I’m still bitterly disappointed that I can’t play Rainbow 6 don’t forget?

Download complete! Yeah! Press ‘B’ for back, I’m greeted by a totally black screen as my 360 whirs and clicks. Finally, the familiar intro FMV starts, and I pump the ‘A’ button to get to the start screen.

Press ‘A’ to start…’Verifying Download….., all good!

And I’m in, ready to rock and roll!

So, Ghost Recon:Summit Strike is OK. (Perhaps because the map pack is free and available to all.)

Rainbow 6 is OK Single Player, but you can’t play it on your 360. Unless you pay for the packs again. Or so it seems.

And another incidental. When you are playing an original Xbox title on your 360, you lose all dashboard functionality, such as music selection, messaging etc. I know that if custom soundtrack is available in the original title, you can still select from your hard drive. However, if like me, you have your 360 streaming music from a PC, you’re out of luck.

Rant over, goodnight!

Naught Of Consequence

Well, nothing of consequence today, so I’ve nothing but random thoughts.

Watched a little bit of Liverpool’s match on Channel 5 tonight. They look quite good, from what little I watched.

Second episode of Eureka on Sky 1 tonight. There’s definitely a dark undertone to this series, I like it. Easily identifiable characters and plenty of subtle social statements. Colin Ferguson plays a good part well. Not quite as comedic as the pilot, but very good, all the same.

Had a major argument with a friend today. It wasn’t nice, but thankfully, all is sorted now.

Managed to complete Extreme 1200 on Legend level today. Phew! I don’t particularly enjoy the Extreme game mode myself, but it has its good points.

Oh yeah, watched "Six Degrees Of Separation" last night on Film 4. Enjoyable film, but only watch it if you can concentrate on it. Nice theory though, and it's made we want to read 'Catcher In The Rye' too!

Well, that’s it. Told you it was an inconsequential day.

Until next time……

MotoGP '06

Well, thanks to persistence, fantastic help and advice from fellow forum members, I am Seeded 4, ranked 1,200 out of 69,000 and have just the Extreme 1200 to finish at Legend level, and GP at Legend too.

So now I think I am qualified to say a massive "Well Done" to Climax and THQ for a fantastic game that offers one of the most addictive games I have ever played, and as a game player since 1K Space Invaders on the ZX80, that's a LOT of games.

The learning curve is extremely challenging, but the rewards for persistence, dogged determination and a certain degree of masochism make it all worth while.

Some of the graphical effects really add to the atmosphere of this game, particularly for the single player. After all, not everyone has access to XBox LiVE.

The drifiting sand, the lighting effects as clouds pass overhead and an amazing detail in the sound really contribute to an enjoyable and challenging single player experience.

On line is even better! Apart from the inherent LiVE problems that all games seem to be suffering at the moment, when you are in 'the zone', there's nothing more satisfying than hurtling round a track at 200 MPH with your favourite tunes blasting out in a vain attempt to drown the sound of the screaming engines! Yes you can adjust them, but it adds to the atmosphere.

Even if you are in a game where the majority of riders are better than you, and you are 15 seconds behind, there's always your Personal Best time to beat.

Anyway, I've spent enough time away from it, time to complete Champion Extreme 1200 before bed.

Again, thanks to everyone concerned for a fantastic game, you should all be proud!

I Hate THAT Ad!

If, like me, you feel like getting hold of whoever passed the new advert for Frosties as suitable for human consumption and slapping them around a little, you'll enjoy the above vid. (As always, I will link to the vid/picture/file in the header of my blog post title. Unless, of course, there's more than one....like this one!)

Enjoy....

Thanks to the guys at Tactical Knightmare, an Airsoft orientated forum, for the vid. Their forum is worth a look, trust me! I am a Ghost Recon fan, after all!

My First Business Appointment On My Road To Success!

Well, todays appointment went really well. Only took 2 hours to sort out 4 machines. Also did a healthcheck and he's interested in signing up for a Support Contract. And one of his staff has problems with their PC, so they're going to ring and arrange for a home visit.

So, I've got to produce an invoice now, my first one! And compile a site report ready for tomorrow.

There's a shortage of IT Support down here for SME's, so I'm hoping to really capitalise on it now. He was really encouraging and is going to pass our details on to his contacts, which is all good! Must have made a good impression......

Anyway, feel really good about it and very enthused and motivated.

And in celebration, I finished MOTOGP '06 on Extreme 1000 at Champion and Legend, and 1200 at Champion. Only 1200 at Champion and GP at Champion left to do!

Right, off to design a cool invoice layout and Site Visit Report. Until next time.....

MOTOGP '06

Phew! Just completed Extreme 600 on Legend. Got 2 achievements too, which is nice.....
One thing I have noticed is that once you progress beyond Pro level, the AI of the other riders seems to become ultra-aggressive! Makes me wanna smack 'em one, the amount of races I've lost 'cos I've been sideswiped by the buggers!

Really Cool Vid - Very clever....

This is worth watching. Could be used as one of those public information films for 'Keep Britain Tidy'. It'd start a craze! You'd have teenagers everywhere trying to re-create, keep 'em busy?

Another Boring Day.....

Well, what can I say about today?

Jamie, the brother of my ex, came down last night from Manchester with his new American girlfriend Heather. We had a few drinks and chatted to the wee small hours. I like Jamie, he's a 'nice' guy and a helluva XBox player! Hat's Off To You Sir! And Heather is a really intelligent and 'life rich' sort of person. You know, had the ups and downs that so many of us have to endure in this journey we call life. Whatever doesn't kill you will only make you stronger, so they say.

I’ll be honest, I was expecting the conversation to be mainly about me and Samantha, but thankfully it wasn’t. I don’t mean in any nasty way, it would have been upsetting. After all, 5 years is a long time and it’s difficult to let go, especially when you still love them and probably always will. It’s funny how your world can be turned over by one single event. At least it's only temporary! A friend of mine said "Positive Thoughts!" as though this was some mystic mantra that would alleviate all my woes. It would be fantastic if it worked! But in a sense they are right. You have to stay positive or else you will end up just sitting back and taking all the shit that life throws at you, and what sort of person would you be then? One lesson I’ve learned is to make sure I have a bit of security behind me in future, because I certainly don’t want to be like this again. I know this is a bit personal, but it's a good venting tool this Blog malarkey!

I can honestly say that I have just had my first truly intelligent conversation with an American. Discussion ranged from the US voting system to the Good/Bad points of living in the UK.

One interesting conversation led to the statement by Heather that the history of conflict is always written by the winner, 9 times out of ten, so it is in actual fact His Story. (The true history reveals itself when the tale is told from the losers perspective.) Anyway, it stuck with me but I suppose you had to be there.

Had the wonderful, soul lifting experience of signing on again today. Fantastic! It always makes me feel so joyous to hear my name shouted out when it's my turn to sign on the dotted line. It's demoralising enough. For most, anyway, but being hollered at doesn't exactly inspire enthusiasm.

Anyway, enough ranting. Time to complete Legend difficulty on MotoGP 06.......until next time.

MOTOGP '06 Secret Achievement

I have DEFINITELY got too much time on my hands! Just completed 500 races and unlocked the 3rd secret achievement....well, not so secret now eh?

Button takes first Grand Prix win

I'd just like to say well done to Jenson Button on his first Grand Prix win! Well done!

Arab League chief criticises UN Lebanon resolution

And already they've noticed that it isn't a proposal for a ceasefire. Leaves the way open for further conflict. No good - scrap it!

Full text: Draft UN Lebanon resolution

I've just read the draft UN resolution for the Lebanese/Israeli conflict, and I have a few comments.

Firstly, it states that many hundreds have died since the kidnapping of the Israeli soldiers. What it DOESN'T say is that most of these deaths are murder, not casualties of war or 'collateral' damage.

It mentions the Blue Line throughout, which is like a no-mans-land area. I've included a link to it because I didn't know what it was either!

It states that no more weapons should be sold to Lebanon, although there is no statement about selling arms to Israel. Wonder why? (I'm being sardonic!)

Also, the International Community should increase it's aid to Lebanon to help it's growth etc.

All pretty standard, but there is one paragraph that I seem to be struggling with.

sic "Elimination of foreign forces in Lebanon without the consent of its government". Does this mean that some sort of covert op is being recommended by the UN to forcibly remove Hezbollah from Lebanese soil? And I wonder who would take it upon themselves to action THAT point eh?

Anyway, whatever the politicians say, what is happening over there is murder, pure and simple! I cannot believe that our government is doing so little and being 'steered' by our U.S. involvements. Britain has turned into the 51st State of the U.S.A.

I for one do not condone or agree with my governments actions, opinions and statements regarding this conflict. They are not acting on my behalf, so who's is it? America's perhaps!?

Voice From The Past

Bloody hell!

Received an email from my Burnley College work colleague Joyce today! Fantastic! She is one funny lady and one of the most interesting and entertaining people I have ever met! It's a rare thing these days to know somebody who is so genuine and 'nice'. Lifted my spirits it did, and God knows they need lifting!

Anyway, enough of the drivvle, it was great to hear from her. Pity I only had bad news to convey!

Also found out that another old work colleague of mine has just had 12 months off dealing with cancer! The guy is the same age as me! Makes you realise that no matter how low you feel, there's ALWAYS someone worse off than yourself.

Travian

For those of you with too much time on their hands, you may want to have a look at Travian. (As per normal, click the Title for a link)

It's nothing spectacular, it is free after all, but mildly entertaining.

Curry Is Good For You - Fact!

Apparently, it's been discovered that curry is not only good for you, but can help people with Alzheimers. It would stand to reason that this could also help Parkinsons and Huntingdons disease sufferers too. Someone should commission a survey/test.

Is This A Social Statement Or Just A Good Vid?

A Walk And Some Talk

First of all let me apologise for two things. Firstly, for the more astute of you, you will see I have posted a photo of myself. I dislike having my photo taken immensely. But you have my permission to use the picture as a screen saver to keep pets and young children away from your screen.
Secondly, this post is image heavy as I am 'messing' with settings etc. And guess what, today it's 'Imbedding Pictures' day! If you are interested, I am hosting these on ImageShack, a free picture hosting site. You can download your photo's and it can convert them for you to the required size for publishing in your blog, forum or website. And it's free! All good!

Anyway, I decided to go for a stroll and a think this afternoon. You know the sort of thing, power thinking and analysis. So I strolled through the thriving Metropolis that is Chatteris down to the old railway line that used to connect Chatteris with Somersham. Below is a picture of Chatteris on a Saturday afternoon. See the crowds and the smiling children?

After purchasing my pre-requisite bottle of water, because the water down here is horrible, I set off down to the south of town where the railway used to begin.

Whenever I get here, I always think 'The Road Goes Ever On and On...." which is from a Tolkien book I think. Anyway, it's nice and flat and there are some spectacular views sometimes. And SNAKES! I kid you not! and not your boring 'worm' of a Grass Snake, these are Vipers, with fangs and everything! The first time I saw one, I nearly suffered an instantaneous bowel movement! Sorry, but it's a lot different to seeing one in a zoo or holding one at school. When you are in the English countryside, the last thing you expect to stumble across is a snake, and the only poisonous one in England! I know they aren't fatal, but the damn thing still has to inject it's poison and I don't fancy those fangs in my ankles! Ow! That's gotta hurt!

Anyway, I eventually reached my 'Thinking Spot' as above. You sit in the shade with a good book or even just 15 minutes to think and do nothing. And the view.....

See, that's what it's like down here. Flat, very flat....and boring, non-descript and isolated. But that's enough about the people. It is spectacular, in its own way, but being used the dramatic views on the Pennines, it's just too damn boring! So now you can see that my 'Thinking Spot' is ideal for emptying your mind, the landscape positively encourages it!

Anyway, after having an hour reading and putting the world to rights in my own head and running ideas and plans for the future under the mental microscope, I decided to return home. Sorry if the photo's aren't very good, but my camera is dying and you are limited to 50K per picture on this blog, but you get the general idea I hope.

Walking back, you see fields full, ready for harvesting. I've seen the same fields a sea of red poppies maybe 3 months before, so the change is startling.

And that was it. Got back, messed with photo's etc. and posted this blog entry.

Right, time to beat some lap times on MOTOGP '06 for a bit.

But I have to end on a serious note. Until next time......

Nem

You are probably not aware of this, but there's a serious graffiti problem in Chatteris. Above is the latest evidence of this pandemic sweeping through the area. Police suspect this may be linked to the reports last week of someone actually smiling in the town centre.

I Want It Now!

I don't know about you, but there seems to be a 'lull' in the gaming front for the 360. There's nothing currently available that appeals to me, so I've been doing a bit of 'trawling' and come across these future releases.

First off we have another release from THQ, GTR. There are only a few screenshots around, and the game itself is scheduled for release Q1 of 2007. Looks nice. If, at the very least, this turns out to be MotoGP but with GTR cars, it'll be a blast! Hopefully this will provide a good alternative to PGR3, which is a little too 'arcadey' for my tastes. And PLEASE don't forget the customisation options THQ. Please?

The next 'big' game is Gears Of War. Now this looks pretty good, graphically at least. And judging from the 'buzz' surrounding it's release, this is going to be a big seller. Well, Microsoft are releasing this at the same time as Sony's PS3, so they are obviously pinning a lot of hopes on this. Typical 3rd person shooter with some incredible settings and effects. Definitely for those lucky enough to have HiDef. Maybe this will be a 'rental' prior to purchase. Check out the video on IGN.

Coming soon is the eagerly anticipated Rainbow 6 : Vegas. This looks fantastic and is the latest incarnation of the Rainbow 6 series. Nuff' said! Let's hope it doesn't turn out to be as dire as Lockdown! Apparently, the mayor of Vegas is not happy about the portrayal of his beloved city within the game. Obviously he doesn't watch CSI. Would YOU want to live there?

And of course, don't forget Saints Row, another release from THQ scheduled for September 1st release. I've already done a review of the demo earlier, but this is currently No.1 on my own wishlist.

As always (or will be!), I've linked the title to the relevant pages on IGN for your perusing pleasure. If there's any screenshots, reviews or videos, you'll find them at IGN.

Anyway, that's it from me for now, maybe catch you online sometime. It's such a fantastic day, I'm actually going to risk some fresh air....wish me luck!

Saints Row Demo - available now on Marketplace

Saints Row Demo – Demo available now on Xbox Marketplace

Published by THQ, the makers of the MOTOGP series.

This is a GTA clone, and as such has an 18 certificate. Advisedly so, in my opinion, as it is definitely an adult theme. But that doesn’t detract from the game, trust me.

You start with the obligatory “Character Creation” screen which seems to be prevalent in games today. However, this is quite good. Allows you to fully customise your character and this also applies to the clothing within the game. This is a very good idea, especially when you consider the on-line side of things. THQ have obviously learned that personalisation of a character is important if you want a successful game. They did it with the MOTOGP series and realised that this was an important part of the appeal. A pity they didn’t extend on it more with MOTOGP ’06, but that’s a different story!

This is a blatant GTA clone, in almost every way, but with subtle and, in my opinion, better improvements.

For example, you have a map. But you can pan the map and set waypoints so you don’t get lost! (A problem I found with GTA sometimes, unless you learnt the map by heart, and I didn’t like it enough to do that.) In addition, the map displays a nice SatNav effect with a blue trail showing you the route to your next objective, easy.

And when you ‘acquire’ a vehicle, you can either drag them out as GTA, or alternatively equip your pistol, press ‘Y’ near the vehicle you wish to borrow and your character will open the door, ‘pop a cap’ in the unfortunate driver and pull the lifeless body from the car and climb in. Fantastic! (Games are escapism, after all!)

And before you start lecturing me about violence in video games, it is certificated 18 so it’s for adults. If parents are either a) Stupid enough to buy this for their kids or b) don’t monitor their children’s gaming, then it’s their own damn fault, in MY opinion.

The sound is excellent. The in game music fits the mood of the game perfectly. And the ability to swap radio stations is another ‘borrowed’ element from GTA. But if you are fortunate enough to have your Xbox laden with music or are using Media Connect/Media Centre, then you can obviously customise your soundtracks to suit, another important feature for a successful game.

The mission structure is familiar, but with some nice touches and, in my opinion, some genuinely funny cut scenes and mission intro’s. Well, they made me laugh?!

For example, your first mission is to get ‘canonized’. Depending on how quickly you complete this, the cut scene is different. Nice touch.

Graphically, it’s good. By no means is it perfect though. There are noticeable drops in frame rates when the screen gets ‘busy’ but this doesn’t deter from the game. The locales are good and fit in well with the theme of the game.

Stereotypes abound in this game, be warned! You have your typical “ho’s” and “bro’s” but this game isn’t pretending to be anything else, so it works well.

Controlling the car is standard too. Accelerate, brake etc. But trust me, try ‘Left Trigger’ for handbrake turning! Fantastic! Now that’s what I CALL a handbrake turn! Made me feel like The Stig!

The NPC’s (None Player Characters) are prone to the familiar ‘randomness’ that was seen in GTA. But it’s not too often, and as a whole they fit in well and act normally, although their driving skills leave a lot to be desired.

I like this game, A LOT! Pure escapism! And the online will be a blast – hopefully!

Definitely one for my Wish List.

Hope this has been informative, look out for ‘Dead Rising’ review real soon.

My First Business Appointment!

I have my first Business customer!
I am scheduled to visit a company on Tuesday 8th August for a FREE IT "HealthCheck" visit and virus removal.
Won't be anything taxing, I'm sure, but you never know.
For the first time in weeks, I actually feel as though I'm making progress.

A Town Called Eureka

Mmm, not bad for a pilot.
It satisfied all the requirements I suppose. You know, the stereotypical gay, the token coloured guy, cute kids and interesting characters with that pre-requisite ‘empathy/sympathy’ connection. The stuff that strikes a chord at every possible level.
Nice format though! I like the idea of mixing sci-fi with comedy. That’s fairly unique in my viewing experience. Interesting concept, and it held up throughout.
Humour is quite dry, when appropriate, and slapstick when suitable. Good mix though. Special effects are good and it has an intriguing storyline.
It’ll have the Conspiracy Theorists foaming at the mouth! The theorists are going to say this isn’t Sci-Fi it’s Sci-FACT!
You have your strong females, love interests, male rivalry, male bonding, family re-united….in fact everything to make this as appealing to as wide an audience as possible. At least it does it’s best to be politically correct and un-offensive, which is a good thing, socially speaking. However, I’d hardly call it thought provoking!
I don’t know for sure, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the camerawork, direction and screenplay hasn’t got experience of working on recent successes as ‘Six Feet Under’, ‘Desperate Housewives’, ‘Lost’ and ‘Prison Break’.
Nothing new, but visually appealing. This will command a cult following, I’m sure! T-Shirts will be worn with pride and fan sites will form in their hundreds! Essentially, it’s a case of X-Files meets National Lampoon meets Twin Peaks meets Stargate. If you have seen the film “Evolution” with David Duchovny, you know the humour type and format throughout. If you ignore it’s your stereotypical American Cult-Series, and as such is just TV fodder, it is entertaining.
Sound is OK, for the audiophiles out there! Clear, strong effects without being over the top, as tempting as it must have been to throw them in. Music is pretty non-descript…would’ve been good to use something more memorable. This is muzak, not music.
Reading back, I sound as though I only like this program. WRONG! I LOVE this!
It’s got gadgets and gizmos, visually appealing characters, intriguing storyline and almost believable technology. One of the best things I’ve watched for ages, but that doesn’t make me shallow! I’ll certainly be series linking this!

Background Info For Those Who Are Interested

About 8 years ago, I broke my back in a gardening accident (Don't ask!) and as such, have weakened my spine to the point where I am sometimes unable to work due to the painkillers and problems with my back.

Approaching 40, I have had to re-address my whole life situation and have decided that my only option is to set up my own business. I have no capital but plenty of sales and marketing experience, so I know this is going to be an uphill struggle.

Moved to this area a little over a year ago from Rochdale, Manchester. Due to personal circumstances (I told you not to ask!) I now find myself in an unfamiliar town with very few acquaintances and on my own.

I'm determined to make a success of this opportunity, but it is going to be hard. And there is no way I am moving back 'Up North'.

My latest dilemma is which way to go career wise. I really do want my own business to be successful, but the situation at the minute is putting extreme pressure on me to find regular income from finding a job. However, my disability is going to be a major factor in my life, if I like it or not, and is severely hampering my efforts to find income.

I want to go to college and learn Web Development, but that cost's money.

Anyway, just a bit of info for anyone who's interested.

A Business Enquiry At Last!

Wahey!

At last! I have received a query from a SME Business is Somersham this morning! Nothing overly complicated, virus removal and 'infected' PC.

After posting 2,000 leaflets and advertising in numerous local Newsagents and Shops, this is the sum total of response in 2 months! Well, apart from a user who's modem had fried in the recent storms we had here. But she was moving away in 2 weeks, so I left them a loaner modem/router until they move. Didn't have the heart to charge them £85 for the supply and installation of a new one. Mmmm, I'm just TOO nice! Ha ha!

Advice for those wanting to be entrepeneurs? Make sure you have lots of capital and spend on decent marketing and advertising!

I'll keep you posted!

Microsoft Owes Me Money!

I, amongst MANY hundreds of others have suffered the dreaded 'game scrape' noise that occurs when your XBox 360 decides, for no reason, to destroy your game disk. And no, I didn't move it while it was accessing, it's not near a subwoofer and it's flat on it's own shelf!

Now, I'm led to believe that as it's Next Gen and as we're early adopters, we are 'beta' testers. Rubbish! In my humble opinion, the Xbox 360 is not fit for purpose if it develops this fault.

And mine did! And I emailed XBox Support, and they picked up my faulty 360, replaced it and got it back to me in 5 days! Thank you, very good!

However, as you may have ascertained, I have suffered the game scrape.

The problem is this. No-one is liable, APPARENTLY, for this. So, you can't take the game back, because it's not a fault with the disk, and XBox won't accept liability, I asked.

If this was an isolated incident, I wouldn't mind. But as a result of the fault, I'm on my second copy of Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter - which I can't use because THAT'S damaged too - and I've had to throw Burnout Revenge and PGR3.

This can't be right surely?

Rant over....

Natives Are Getting Restless!

Oh dear, maybe I'm not alone! But I don't think this is the solution!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/cambridgeshire/5240918.stm

There are certainly serious problems with our government that need solving now! But how to do it?

But I don't think violence is the answer, but then again, I don't know what is!
